The updated Vector Atlas database (VADB) has just been launched - a high quality, up-to-date, and comprehensive dataset of malaria vector occurrence and biologically focused data for Africa.

Curating data from published literature, the VADB incorporates information for all African dominant and secondary malaria vector species and includes occurrence, bionomics, and insecticide resistance (IR) assay information. It also includes significant peripheral information on the surrounding ecology in those areas where mosquitoes are reported.

The VADB makes available information abstracted from scientific literature from 1983 onwards and contains over 56,000 rows of occurrence data, of which over 10,100 rows include bionomics data, over 11,700 rows provide phenotypic IR data, and over 7,100 rows incorporate genotypic IR data. It will be regularly updated to include information from the latest publications as they become available and expanded to include additional data taken from the grey literature and unpublished sources where possible.

The data is presented on the new Vector Atlas platform cleaned and analyses-ready for use by the malaria vector and transmission community to help inform evidence-based solutions for vector control. An updated suite of vector occurrence, abundance and IR maps is also available
