Eva Herreros Moya

I am a biologist with an MSc in Environmental Engineering and Management and have worked as a project manager in the Department of Biology at the University of Oxford since 2018. In this role, I oversee logistics, finances, and administration for the HumBug project, while also managing grant proposal writing and the HumBug website and social media accounts.

I am also collaborating on a research project led by the Innovative Vector Control Consortium (IVCC) to better understand the effectiveness of Attractive Targeted Sugar Baits (ATSBs) in mosquito control across diverse landscapes. These baits contain sugars from nectar and fruits to attract mosquitoes, combined with an insecticide to kill them. My contribution involves estimating the availability of sugar nectar across study sites in Kenya, Zambia, and Mali to investigate potential impacts of local vegetation on ATSBs efficacy.

This project aligns with my PhD research, which aims to i) develop a methodology for estimating sugar nectar quantities in specific areas, ii) determine if mosquitoes exhibit preferences for specific plant nectar, and iii) better understand the cues underlying this attraction.

Before joining Oxford, I worked at the Mosquito Control Service in Barcelona, where I coordinated mosquito population monitoring, public space treatments, citizen education, and entomological inspections during arbovirus infections, including Dengue, Zika, Chikungunya, and West Nile Virus.
