Dr Francesco Pelizza

My research focuses on Natural Flood Management (NFM) and in particular on one technique: the engineered woody dam. The aim of my project is to investigate if woody dams can effectively reduce flood hazards by influencing flood peaks at a catchment scale, and modify flow velocities, sediment fluxes and habitat at the local scale thus yielding benefits in terms of biodiversity and functionality of the riverine macroinvertebrate communities.

Francesco is now a Principal Research Officer in the Wetland Landscapes and Processes Team at the WWT.
